Tree Risk Identification and Management (TRIM) Surveys

We've embraced this tree management approach to our tree surveys and tree inspections, not only to identify and assess risks associated with trees, but also to inform future management prescriptions aligned with arboricultural best practice and the latest industry guidance.

Our professional tree inspection and tree safety assessment services support private landowners, estates and organisations throughout Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol, Somerset, South Wales and the wider South West.

Who our tree surveys are for

Homeowners

Worried about a tree near the house, or buying a property with large trees? We’ll tell you plainly whether it’s safe and what, if anything, needs doing.

Estates and landowners

Structured surveys of the trees across your land, so you can show you’re managing them responsibly and meeting your Duty of Care.

Schools, care homes and public spaces

The busier the place, the more it matters. We assess each tree against how the space around it is used, so work goes where it’s needed most.

Duty of care

Why commission a Tree Risk Assessment?

We advocate for tree risk assessment surveys to ensure that your trees are managed in a defensible, proportionate, and reasonable manner, in accordance with your legal Duty of Care as mandated by the Occupiers Liability Acts.

Under these Acts, tree owners or managers are obliged to "take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which they can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure their neighbour." Additionally, tree owners must ensure the safety of visitors or trespassers on their land by taking reasonable steps to prevent harm.

In practical terms, this means that if a tree failure leads to harm, such as damage to property or injury to individuals, the tree owner may be held liable. The likelihood of a successful claim typically hinges on whether the owner was negligent—for instance, if they neglected obvious signs of tree damage or disease and failed to take preventative action.

Therefore, whether you own trees or are responsible for their management, it's prudent to have them regularly inspected by a professional, competent and fully insured tree surveyor or arboricultural consultant.

Depending on the site, occupancy and risk profile, assessments may range from routine tree inspections and tree health assessments through to more detailed investigation using recognised methodologies such as VALID Tree Risk Assessment and QTRA where appropriate.
